Introducing… Scott & Charters Ltd

David Chapman, Sales Director at Scott & Charters Ltd, introduces this family run business which manufactures luxury knitwear using the finest quality natural materials.

Could you introduce your business?

Scott & Charters was founded in Hawick in 1955. A family run business for over three generations, it built its reputation on principles of service and quality.

The company has invested not only in the fabric of the buildings, but continues to develop our workforce whose skills and craftsmanship are honed by years of experience and knowledge. Commodities which are hard to find in today’s throw away world.

Our customers are long-standing and remain loyal because they know the standard of quality that comes from a Scott & Charters garment.

What product or service are you most excited about showing at Make it British Live!

Scott and Charters develop and produce their own seasonal collections, using only the finest quality natural fibres. Working closely with our designer, our technical team coordinate and produce collections incorporating updated classics with more fashionable, but wearable seasonal capsules developed using innovative stitch textures and patterns.

In developing our knitwear collections, Scott & Charters insist on using only the finest quality yarns. For our Cashmere and Geelong Lambswool qualities, we turn to Todd & Duncan, the world’s premier yarn spinner, who are world-renowned for their consistent quality and service. Using only the finest and longest white Cashmere fibres, combed from the Cashmere goat, they produce a luxurious cashmere yarn, unrivalled in quality and consistency. This yarn is offered in a palette of more than 180 shades.

Scott & Charters use this Cashmere yarn in various weights to produce beautiful ladies and men’s Cashmere knitwear. For our Geelong Lambswool men’s capsule collection, we use Todd & Duncan’s ‘Lamaine’ quality, which is spun from woollen fibres taken from the early clips of the young sheep. Only this early clip produces the soft fine fibres used to create this classic yarn.
